How to calculate changes in rates

To calculate the percentage increase between two values, you can use the following formula:

If the new value is 100000 and the old value is 200000, then the percentage increase would be:

  1. Percentage increase = [(new value – old value) / old value] x 100%
  2. Percentage increase = [(100000 – 200000) / 200000] x 100% Percentage increase = (-0.5) x 100% Percentage increase = -50%
  3. In this case, the result is negative because the new value is lower than the old value. This means that there has been a decrease in value rather than an increase. Specifically, the decrease in this case is 50%.

If we reverse the values, such that the old value is 100000 and the new value is 200000, the percentage increase would be:

  1. Percentage increase = [(new value – old value) / old value] x 100%
  2. Percentage increase = [(200000 – 100000) / 100000] x 100% Percentage increase = 1 x 100% Percentage increase = 100%
  3. In this case, the result is positive, indicating that there has been an increase in value of 100%. This means that the new value is twice as much as the old value.
